2024 Silver Star B.C. Canada Trip Highlights

In North Central Minnesota, “I am dreaming of a white Christmas.” I hope that you have skiable snow where you are at. However, after the snowless 2023-2024 ski season, I was not going to take any chances. I registered for the December 3-9, 2024 Silver Star B.C. Canada Endurance Adventure Trip. I am so thankful I did!
Watching the weather reports before the trip, I knew we would have snow. However, I did not understand what a magical place it was. We had 16 people on the journey, quickly becoming a family ski community. The Silver Star Resort Village was a winter wonderland nicknamed “Whoville.” Even the fir trees that stood like skyscrapers decorated by snow seem to set the stage for a Dr. Suess scene.
The ski conditions were incredible. Craig Rudd would wax our skies to perfection. Each morning, we opened with skills lessons led by Kim Rudd. She did a great job of giving us individual attention so that each of us had a few details to work on as we went out for our daily ski.
The day’s structure was flexible, allowing each person to choose either classic or skate technique and desired ski distance. We had three coaches skiing with us to keep us on track and assist with our technique. Each day, we found enchanting cabins for snack time. Coaches carried hot water for cocoa or tea and several delicious treats.
Off the trails, we had lovely group dinners. Each night, we ate as a group at different restaurant offering its unique specialties. My favorite night was the Light Up Festival and Holiday Market. The adorable village was glowing as vendors and crafters lined booths down the main street to show their merchandise.
Santa, elves, and even the Grinch made appearances. You could enjoy a complementary cup of cocoa and roast s’mores as you strolled through the street. To complete the evening, we watched alpine skiers fly down the slopes with red glowing lights to kick off the fireworks show. We watched the fireworks from Kim and Craig’s condo balcony while enjoying dessert and beverages.

- I loved the technique work and instruction from coaches Kim, Craig, and Mike. The group dynamics were fantastic! I enjoyed all the glide and kick-waxing help throughout the week. I loved the hot tub for soaking my sore muscles and recovery yoga sessions.
- The location…wow. Amazing leaders and instruction. Being around like-minded people doing something we love. I improved as a skier.
- Great skiing conditions, time with friends, fun conversations, excellent instruction, and dynamic technique tips.
- Skiing above the clouds and knowing I was being safely guided around an unknown area. I enjoyed the technique lessons, waxing services, skiing with good friends, getting to know others in the ski community, yoga sessions, and cabin carbo-loading snacks/hot chocolate!
- Multiple days to ski, long ski routes available, excellent snow, grand mountain range views, and spending time learning about the amazing geology of B.C.
- Getting to try a new ski area and making new friends was a highlight!
